Waddell Creek

Legacy Forest

With its enchanting maples, sky-scraping conifers and rich understory, the Waddell Creek Legacy Forest leaves a lasting impression on anyone lucky enough to experience it. This 320-acre riparian forest ecosystem is located on Chehalis territory along Waddell Creek, where it provides habitat for elk, bobcats, butterflies, and countless other species. Many Douglas firs are over five feet thick, their deeply furrowed bark adorned with moss and lichen. Gaps in the overstory invite new growth below. Snags and nurse logs abound. Birdsong floods the air.

DNR's "Class Dismissed," "Sparrow Hawk," and "Branches" timber sales threaten to clearcut nearly a third of the Waddell Creek Legacy Forest by 2028.
