About this campaign:
From the Stillaguamish River to Wallace Falls, Snohomish County is home to some of the most awe-inspiring native forests in Washington State. These scattered pockets of biodiversity stand tall among clearcuts and tree farms, each one a living testament to regeneration and resilience.
The Legacy Forest Defense Coalition is working in collaboration with the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County, alongside other organizations like the Center for Responsible Forestry and a growing number of impacted residents, to advocate for the legacy forests that remain on DNR-managed lands across the county.
With dozens of timber sales threatening Snohomish County's legacy forests in the next few years, the clock is ticking for these vital ecosystems.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
If you live in Snohomish County:
Please join us in urging the Snohomish County Council to advocate for our legacy forests! Ask the Council to request that the Department of Natural Resources 1) cancel all scheduled timber sales targeting legacy forests in the county, 2) prioritize younger plantations for harvest to keep DNR and trust beneficiaries financially whole, and 3) explore more sustainable, long-term mechanisms for generating revenue.

Please also send a friendly email to the Commissioner of Public Lands asking for a moratorium on legacy forest timber sales in Snohomish County.

If you are part of an NGO or community group in the Snohomish County area:
Power in numbers! Consider working with your organization to send a letter to Snohomish County Council and Commissioner Upthegrove supporting the protection of legacy forests in the county.
