About the event
On Saturday, January 10th, walk through the rare legacy forest at stake in DNR's Chai timber sale! Located in northern Capitol State Forest, Unit 3 of the Chai timber sale would clearcut a rare, 145-year-old forest in the Mox Chehalis creek watershed. This is one of Thurston County's oldest remaining legacy forests, and the county has requested that DNR protect it. Join us for a group walk to this one-of-a-kind native forest, which is currently scheduled for auction in March 2026.
When: Saturday, January 10th, 2026 from 10am–3pm
Where: We'll meet at 10am at the North Slope Parking Lot, just south of Straddle Line Park and the intersection of SR-8 and Cooper Rd SW. What: Attendees can expect 2-3 miles of walking (total) both on and off trail. *Please bring water, snacks, shoes to hike in and the appropriate layers in case of rain.
