Description
The Burnt Hill Legacy forest, located south of Sequim is a 1300 acre Legacy Forest. The DNR had targeted this area for logging in the “Power Station and "Dungeness and Dragons” timber sales, but LFDC’s discovery of rare ecosystems within the forest has led to the cancellation of both of the sales. This legacy forest is home to multiple documented Marbled Murrelet nest sites and verified patches of old growth. It is bursting with massive Grand Fir, Western Red Cedar, and Douglas fir trees up to 7 feet in diameter. It's also home to an abandoned pioneer cabin, miles of trails and hundreds of culturally modified cedar trees. It is part of the Olympic Rainshadow ecosystem, and was last logged in the 1800s.
