Gaddis Creek
Legacy Forest
Located on the Usual and Accustomed lands of the Chehalis Tribe, the Gaddis Creek Legacy Forest is the largest remaining section of contiguous legacy forest in Southern Grays Harbor County (approximately 820 acres). These stands are among the oldest forests remaining in the Chehalis watershed, and function as irreplaceable reservoirs of biological diversity. In addition to massive scattered old growth trees and five-foot-thick Douglas firs, the Gaddis Creek Legacy Forest is likely home to hundreds of species of beneficial fungi, bryophytes, and lesser known invertebrates. Notably, 245 acres of the Gaddis Creek Legacy Forest is protected as Marbled Murrelet nesting habitat under DNR's Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP). The rest of the forest, however, remains open to logging.
