Come explore the Waddell Creek Legacy Forest in Thurston County! DNR is planning to clearcut this forest in the “Sparrow Hawk” timber sale in 2025. DIFFICULTY: MODERATE 3 miles roundtrip with on-trail and off-trail sections. ~300 ft elevation gain.

About the event

Located on the Usual and Accustomed lands of the Chehalis Tribe, the “Sparrow Hawk” timber sale threatens the Waddell Creek legacy forest. This riparian forest is home to massive Douglas firs, stunning western redcedars, and irreplaceable wildlife habitat. The timber sale is scheduled for auction in May 2025.

Please join us on July 21st to visit the sale and raise awareness for our legacy forests!

Where: We'll meet at the Margaret McKenny Campground (46.926161, -123.060111)

When: Sunday, July 21st, 2024 from 10am–1pm

What: The hike will be approximately 3 miles roundtrip, with on-trail and off-trail sections and ~300 feet of elevation gain. Please bring water, snacks, shoes to hike in and the appropriate layers in case of rain. *DISCOVER PASS REQUIRED*
